Sheppard’s Chandlery

The Sheppard’s name and famous blue logo has been familiar with yachtsmen cruising through the Mediterranean and further afield for over 50 years.

Sheppard’s used to be known as a small and friendly marina with a good chandlery shop and, even though the marina is now part of Ocean Village, the chandlery shop is still the one stop shop for yachties it has always been. It is located at the exit of the covered car park at Ocean Village.

The majority of yachts which make up the market in Gibraltar are serious, long distance cruisers. These boats are hard on their equipment and have quite different requirements to those of a day-boat or luxury day-cruiser.

Sheppard’s specialises in the sailing cruisers sector but also covers power cruisers and day boats. The standard stuff is all available, such as ropes, fenders, paints and pumps but, for example

The Shop

* Ropes are now available in several qualities and cater for the variety of types used on a sailing yacht like low-stretch Dyneema for halyards, braided polyester for sheets, special nylon plaits for anchor line, apart from standard mooring and anchoring lines for all boats.

* Fenders are similarly available in heavy duty types as well as lightweight versions for berthing in sheltered waters.

* Antifouling paints range from low cost for day-boats to state of the art International Micron for long term protection of yachts.

* Pumps might be simple submersible bilge pumps or water pressure systems serving several outlets at once on a super-yacht.

* Sailing hardware is from Harken, Lewmar, Wichard, Sparcraft and Selden, all brands well known to the owners of serious cruising yachts. Powerboat hardware from deck cleats to steering systems are all held in stock.

Sheppard’s also offer EPIRB’s, life rafts for offshore use, AIS’s, GPS chart plotters, Radar sets, wind-powered generators, photovoltaic panels, water-makers, foul weather clothing, yacht anchors, charts and equipment which you rarely find in those chandlery shops which cater mainly for day-boats or inshore craft. However, day boat owners will find engine spares, A4 stainless steel fasteners, products for cleaning and maintenance, fishing equipment and all the necessary safety equipment.

The main electronics brand at Sheppard’s is Raymarine. Prices for Raymarine instruments and equipment are very competitive (check out the prices on the website, or call for more information) and a technician is sent annually to Raymarine for up-dating on new products. Day boat owners are catered for by equipment such as the revolutionary range of Dragonfly sonar/plotters.

We also sell yachts and boats and are dealers for Jeanneau and Quicksilver.
